College Park, Georgia
This eight-story, 403-key, 315,000 SF hotel is a major component of the Gateway Center Development in College Park, Georgia with a direct transit link to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The project is conveniently situated next to the Georgia International Convention Center and an Automated People Mover (APM) transit system station serving both the airport and its car rental facility. The APM station and the Convention Center are connected to the hotel via a covered serpentine walkway that provides protected pedestrian access directly to the hotel, restaurant and function entrances.
The hotel offers 385 guestrooms, eighteen hospitality and luxury suites, a 100 seat Champions restaurant, 40,300 SF of conference space, a 327 car parking deck and a number of amenities including an enclosed swimming pool, fitness center, business center, executive conference area, restricted-use concierge lounge, and a state-of-the-art teleconferencing facility.
The architectural design of the hotel responds to the dynamic, aerodynamic “aesthetic of flight” seen at the Convention Center next door. The exterior cladding is a combination of smooth and horizontally-ribbed precast concrete panels with a painted finish that relates to the context of the other buildings throughout the Gateway Center development. A dynamic, gently contoured porte-cochere, reminiscent of the contoured wings on the aircraft flying above, defines the main lobby entry point. The entrance façade has a refined, understated design with a stone wall and metal panel soffits that serve as a counterpoint to the richly designed communal lobby.
