Science Lecture Building

Atlanta Metropolitan State College | Atlanta, Georgia

Higher Purpose

This 1970s-era building, originally designed for a Junior High School Program was transformed into a state-of-the-art, 21st-century learning center that supports the college’s academic plan and extends the life of the building for another 20-30 years. Inefficient classrooms with sloping floors were replaced with flat floor classrooms accommodating the college’s standard desk furniture and layouts. A variety of classroom sizes were provided from a sixty seat, tiered lecture halls to twelve student seminar rooms. All finishes were upgraded to provide spaces with a more collegiate atmosphere for a new generation of students. The project included a significant addition that accomplished the college’s goal to make the building more visible and prominent from the surrounding community.

"I am thoroughly pleased and impressed with the architectural and interior design services provided by Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates."
