Space Big Enough for All to Flourish

Smallwood was met with the opportunity to design a haven for inspiration and collaboration in an existing industrial warehouse.  The Kennesaw State University College of the Arts program demanded multiple uses under one roof designed to allow students to test the limits of their imaginations while exploring a profession in art and design. The high warehouse ceilings offer room for displaying student’s oversized art as well as an awareness of multiple activities occurring throughout the space. Break out areas, designed to provide a comfortable location to energize and fuel the process, are mixed in throughout the labs and studios. The 20,000 SF facility needed to house oversized Painting and Drawing studios as well as Papermaking, Serigraphy, Etching, Lithography, and Letterpress Labs each requiring its own plumbing and electrical requirements.  These spaces are designed with distinctive finish selections ideal to handle the everyday wear and tear of an art room and to maintain the balance between creativity and function.

Smallwood also provided Experiential Graphic Design services for this project. To learn more about this practice area, please click the link above.
