Tamuda, Morocco
Similar to the Fairmont in Rabat, the brief was to create a light, fresh interpretation of Moroccan styling with the accent on the patterns rather than an abundance of colour. However, the St. Regis also was to have a more contemporary classic approach.
Smallwood took the whites and blues of Northern Morocco while adding Berber touches in pattern and detailing. The whole premise was that of a private Riad, not a hotel so there is no check-in and no reception. Boutique exclusivity was the inspiration with cultural references acknowledged in the columns of the grand hall and Spa and the subtle references in artwork and accessories.
