Unplug from technology and plug into the outdoors

Being able to unplug from technology and plug into the outdoors was the active theme for the design of the landscape and site. By using green infrastructure elements such as rain gardens and forward-thinking stormwater management, these typically invisible systems become an environmental learning tool for the students. In conjunction with these sustainable concepts, a central courtyard was designed to create a variety of interactive and collaborative spaces that can serve as outdoor classrooms and give teachers the opportunity to utilize different types of teaching environments.

A paved pedestrian path was designed to double as a fire lane around the school and more natural trails were created to allow students to access undisturbed forest areas. A 1.5 acre grassed activity field and hardcourt playground are included in the design for more traditional school activities. These areas round out a site design that provides flexibility to suit a wide range of activities and needs.
